Week 32

Hello Families!

This week we had lots of fun writing sentences and learning about our sense of hearing and our sense of smell! We did a little smell text and guess different flavors of things, which was so much fun! This week we will talk about our senses of taste and touch!

Things to Know:

MasksI wish to my core that this wasn't even a topic right now. This year has been such an amazing year with your preschoolers and it feels like a step in the wrong direction. The last thing I want to see is your preschoolers' excited and sweet faces behind a mask. Unfortunately, it is a thing right now.

I wanted to let you know what our classroom will look like, starting Monday, with the new mandate. Our schedule, routine, learning and having fun will ALL stay the same. My goal is for your child to NOT wear their mask all morning, while following the rules. Here is what I am planning.... Your child will not wear a mask outside. This means we will be learning outside as much as possible. I love this anyway because the weather is getting nicer and we can do math, reading, writing outside! Your child will not wear a mask while eating or drinking. This means I will be prolonging our snack time into our reading time to give a longer indoor mask break. I will "encourage" your child to put their mask on while we are transitioning between activities, as a class. I want their days to stay as normal as possible.
Would you be willing to help me by making sure your child has a mask along to school? The best case scenario is a gator mask or a mask attachment so that the mask is "on" your child.  I will also have extra disposable masks in the classroom if your child's get dirty or misplaced. I hope this all makes sense but please let me know if you have any questions on any of this. Miska, Megan Stephenson (our COVID Liason), and I are all more than willing to listen to any questions, or concerns you may have regarding this.

Library Books: All of our library books will be due back on May 14! This coming week I will send home papers that will tell you exactly what materials your student has out. If you can't find a book at home or you don't think your student ever took out that book, let me know and I will send out email to try and track down where they could have gone!

Bee Certificates: Some of your students may have told you about a new system we have implemented in our class! Our Bee Certificates are a way for me to really encourage kids who are being extra kind, extra helpful, or extra safe during our class time! Both classes are working towards the goal of everyone getting one before the end of the year! If we do this, we will celebrate with a popsicle picnic! If you have any questions about it, let me know!

From Rose Park:

Plant Sale!  On Friday morning, May 7, the 4th graders (in conjunction with the HCHS life skills students), will be hosting a plant sale at Rose Park near the front entrance.  Please plan to purchase your tomato, pepper, and herb plants then!  Nutrient rich worm castings, created right at Rose Park, will also be available as fertilizer.  Spread the word - watch for more details to come!
